GOOD NEWS! Wu Zhi Qiao "Building with Earth" project received Terrafibre Award 2021

The Ceremony of the Terrafibra Award 2021 was held on November 24, 2021 at the Pavillon de l'Arsenal in Paris, France. The "Building with Earth Demonstration Project- Macha Villagers Center" in Gansu province of China, supported by the "Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation has been awarded the TERRAFIBRA Award 2021 in the "Community Development" category.

Our heartfelt congratulations go to Professor Mu Jun, Professor Jiang Wei, and Professor Zhou Tiegang for their leadership, as well as the countless effort of university student volunteer teams and staff of Wu Zhi Qiao for their years of dedicated research and practical services to make this a fruition journey.

This project is located in Macha Village, Huining County, Gansu Province of China. It is supported by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, project coordinated by Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation, and funded by Chan Cheung Mun Chung Charitable Fund and Swire Properties Limited. With the lead of Professor Mu Jun, Professor Jiang Wei, and Professor Zhou Tiegang, together with the Wu Zhi Qiao university student volunteer teams, the graduate students team of Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, Beijing University of Civil Engineering and Architecture, this is the collective efforts of all with many years of experimental research in the field of modern rammed earth making full use of natural material resources.

Wu Zhi Qiao organizes student volunteers and village craftsmen from Hong Kong and the Mainland to jointly complete the project through a series of training, workshops, demonstration, and volunteer services. At present, the Center has not only become a spiritual center that meets the needs of villagers for public services, and villagers frequently hold various spontaneous activities, but also it serves as a base for the development and training center of modern rammed earth construction and its technology training for the whole country. To make the long story short, design innovation and remarkable contribution to community are one of the core elements for winning this "Community Development" category award.
