Village Rebuild Demonstration Project Won “2011 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation—Jury Commendation for Innovation” (23 Dec 2011)
image170In these few years, our Village Rebuild Demonstration Project in Maan Qiao Village of Sichuan has obtained several awards, including Green Building Award 2010, Design for Asia Award, China Architectural Media Award & Challenge Cup 2011. Recently, this project has been awarded “UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation—Jury Commendation for Innovation”. The award presentation ceremony was held at Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development Office in Beijing on 21 Dec . The award is established by UNESCO and aims to recognize newly-built structures which demonstrate outstanding architectural design that is well-integrated into historic contexts. Wu Zhi Xing 2011 (14 Nov 2011)
image168The Foundation launched the first-ever intervarsity charity walk – ‘Wu Zhi Xing 2011’ at Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail on 13 Nov. The event attracted more than 1,600 citizens of Hong Kong as well as students, teachers and alumni of 11 local tertiary institutions. They raised funds through taking part in the event to support the Foundation in developing bridge building projects, targeted at university students, in remote areas in Mainland China. Roving Exhibition of Sichuan Village Rebuild Demonstration Project (6 Oct 2011)
image166The roving exhibition of Sichuan village rebuild demonstration project has been held in Sep at HKUST, HKBU, CityU & HKU and well received by public. Victoria He Ping Village Wu Zhi Qiao was built in Sichuan (29 Aug 2011)
image16338 professional and student volunteers from universities in Hong Kong, Mainland and overseas built a more than 30 meters long footbridge with the local villagers successfully in He Ping Village during the period from 16 Aug to 24 Aug. This is the second bridge as supported by Victoria Educational Organisation and the bridge is named as “Victoria He Ping Village Wu Zhi Qiao”. Please click here for more project details.

Tsinghua-HKU Centenary Wu Zhi Qiao was built in Yunnan (16 Aug 2011)
image160As this year is the centenary of both Tsinghua University and The University of Hong Kong, the Foundation invited them to launch a bridge building project in Xianyuan Village, Sanchuan Township, Yongsheng County, Lijiang City, Yunnan, as one of their centenary celebration events, and to improve the commutation of the local villagers. 50 students from Tsinghua and HKU and professionals built 21 meters long footbridge successfully for the village from 8 Aug to 15 Aug. This bridge project is fully sponsored by Wharf China Limited and the bridge is named as “Tsinghua-HKU Centenary Wu Zhi Qiao”. Please click here for more project details.

WZQ bridge building programme in Guangyuan City, Sichuan now open for recruitment! (28 Jun 2011)
image155In a remote Heping village in Guangyuan City, Sichuan, the locals and students have to wade across the river during the rainy season. Thus, Wu Zhi Qiao teams from Sichuan University and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University are planning to build a safe footbridge for them from 16 to 24 August this summer. They are now recruiting passionate team members from Hong Kong Universities. Can’t you miss it?

A new Wu Zhi Qiao was built in Qingjiang County, Bazhong City, Sichuan (10 Jun 2011)
image154During the period from 1 Jun to 6 Jun, 24 professional and student volunteers from universities in Hong Kong and Mainland finished the bridge decking and handrail installation work of a 36 metres long footbridge for the villagers in Baofeng Village successfully. This project is sponsored and supported by The Hongkong Bank Foundation.

Village Rebuild Demonstration Project Trip in Jul (2 Jun 2011)
Hong Kong and Mainland volunteers finished the paving work of the new Community Centre and painting parts of its structure for the villagers in Maan Qiao Village of Sichuan in Aug last year. Now, the Wu Zhi Qiao team from Chinese University of Hong Kong is planning to organize a volunteer trip to assist in wall maintenance of the Centre and conduct educational programme for primary/secondary students from 13 Jul to 19 Jul. image149In a remote Baofeng village in Bazhong City, Sichuan, the villagers are using a stone bridge which only have columns, but no surface, is prone to accidents. Also, it is always covered by the water when the tide is high. Thus, Wu Zhi Qiao teams from Chongqing Jiaotong University and Hong Kong University of Science and Technology are planning to build a footbridge from 1 Jun to 6 Jun for them. They are now recruiting passionate team members. Will you join them?

WZQ bridge building programme in Lijiang City, Yunnan now open for recruitment! (4 May 2011)
In a remote Xianyuan village in Yongsheng County, Lijiang City, Yunnan, a stone bridge is temporarily built to cross the river. However, it is washed away by the flooding water during the rainy season every year. The villagers can’t cross the river and have to build the bridge yearly afterwards. Thus, Wu Zhi Qiao teams from The University of Hong Kong and Tsinghua University are planning to build a footbridge from 8 Aug to 15 Aug for the villagers and the kids. They are now recruiting passionate team members. Will you join them?

A New Wu Zhi Qiao was built in Zhangjiachuan County, Tianshui City, Gansu (28 Apr 2011)
image14616 professional and student volunteers mainly from 6 universities in Hong Kong and Mainland built a more than 10 meters long footbridge with the local villagers successfully in Datan Village during the period from 21 Apr to 25 Apr. It was the first time to build the 2nd Wu Zhi Qiao bridge in same village, and also provided a good opportunity for new University team members to learn how to build a gabion bridge.

Wu Zhi Qiao Student Interflow Camp in Hong Kong (24 Feb 2011)
image142The Wu Zhi Qiao Student Interflow Camp was successfully held in Hong Kong from 17 Feb to 21 Feb. Close to 100 student and teacher volunteers from 17 universities in Hong Kong, Mainland, Taiwan and U.S participated in it to have mutual communication/ learning and experience sharing. A New Wu Zhi Qiao was built in Yulong County, Yunnan (18 Jan 2011)
image138A new Wu Zhi Qiao bridge was successfully built in early Jan. This project was collaborated between Chongqing University and The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Its uniqueness is portrayed by using recycled materials as construction materials to fully implement Wu Zhi Qiao’s vision in environmentally friendly construction. Ms Anita Tang, the project sponsor, went to the village to attend teh bridge opening ceremony on 12 Jan 2011. She also visited the local primary school and the families in the village. A New Wu Zhi Qiao was built in Sanmeng Township, Luchun County, Honghe State, Yunnan (4 Jan 2011)
image135More than 35 professional and student volunteers mainly from 4 universities in Hong Kong, Mainland and Taiwan built a 20 meters long footbridge succcesfully in Aidong Village, Luchun County, Honghe State, Yunnan during the period from 25 Dec to 3 Jan. The project is fully supported by Yunan Simai Mining Co. Ltd and the bridge is named as “Yunan Simai Wu Zhi Qiao”. Please click here to see more project details.
