University Survey Trips to 4 WZQ Project Sites (Nov 07)
With the Foundations’ funding support, University Wu Zhi Qiao Project teams have conducted site surveys to Guizhou, Gansu, Shaanxi and Sichuan in Mid-October 2007. In these trips, the teams obtained survey data of the river, historical and cultural background of the villages, conditions of the river and existing bridges, availability of local materials and venue for volunteer activities, etc. All these survey results will provide necessary information for future bridge design, project planning and implementation work. Currently, the teams are working on the preliminary bridge design. They will have further site investigation and local liaison work on the site during winter.

An Inter-university Wu Zhi Qiao Task Force (Sep 07)
The Foundation has set up a Wu Zhi Qiao Task Force which comprises members of the Project and Resources Committee of the Foundation and representatives from different local universities. The group will unite expertise and resources from different universities and implement Wu Zhi Qiao projects with an inter-university approach. The task force is now planning on-site survey works in Oct 07.

Upcoming Wu Zhi Qiao Project Sites (Aug 07)
The Foundation has conducted surveillance trips to Guizhou, Shaanxi, Gansu and Sichuan from May to July to visit a total of 10 sites. Four different project sites have been selected as follows:

• Xinchang Village, Ziyun County, Anshun City, Guizhou
• Baishisi Village, Tongjiang County, Bazhong City, Sichuan
• Datan Village, Zhangjia County, Tianshui City, Gansu Xingshi Village, Yijun County, Tongchuan City, Shaanxi

Information of 24 Potential Wu Zhi Qiao Project Sites (Apr 07)
With the full support from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the Foundation has obtained 24 potential Wu Zhi Qiao project sites from remote and poor villages with urgent bridge building needs. Currently we are planning surveillance visits to the Sites with representatives from university chapters in May and June. Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation Inaugurated (Apr 07)
The inauguration ceremony of the Foundation was held on the 70th floor of the Bank of China Tower on 12 April 2007. Officiating guests comprise the Honorable Michael Suen, Secretary for Housing, Planning, and Lands, Sir David Akers-Jones, the Foundation’s Honorary Chairman, Dr Zhao Hui, Deputy-Director of Department of Village and Township Construction, Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, P.R.C., and Professor Edward Ng, the Foundation’s Chairman. The ceremony is attended by Professor Lawrence J. Lau, Vice-chancellor of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and representatives from The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and City University of Hong Kong.
