Support Intervarsity Charity Walk to change lives with bridges

Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation will launch the first-ever charity walk at Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail on Sunday, 13 November 2011, to unite the efforts and caring hearts from tertiary institutions and to improve the lives of the villagers by building footbridges in remote villages in rural China.

Use of Donations

Donations raised through this event (after deducting expenses) will be used for supporting the operation and the development of Wu Zhi Qiao (Bridge to China) Charitable Foundation.

“Wu Zhi Xing 2011” was held successfully on 13 Nov

“Wu Zhi Xing 2011” was successfully accomplished on a sunny day on 13 Nov. The event attracted more than 1,600 citizens of Hong Kong as well as students, teachers and alumni of 11 local tertiary institutions. They raised funds through taking part in the event to support the Foundation in developing bridge building projects, targeted at university students, in remote areas in Mainland China. It has successfully raised more than HK$1.8 million.

Once again, we would like to thank all of the supporting organizations / participating universities, particularly those who joined the walk. Seeing you next year!

Enrolment Deadline of “Wu Zhi Xing 2011” is Extended to Oct 28 2011

To encourage the general public and more tertiary students to participate in the first-ever fundraising event “Wu Zhi Xing 2011” Charity Walk, the Foundation has confirmed to extend the enrolment deadline to October 28, 2011 (Friday).

The routing of this event is Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail at Tai Tam Country Park. The Trail is a scenic one and great for leisure walkers. It covers 21 historic waterworks structures which have been declared monuments, including stone bridges, dams and valve houses. Most of them even have over hundred years of history. This event is fully supported by the Water Supplies Department, which provides training and arranges the volunteers to introduce designate monuments to the participants, so that the participants can know more about the historical background of the waterworks structures.

Tai Tam Tuk Raw Water Pumping Station near the endpoint will also be opened for our participants on the event day. There are stream driven pumps and very rare chimney shaft constructed in red brick. There will also be some panels introducing the history of waterworks structures. Please grasp the last chance to join and don’t miss this!

Wu Zhi Xing 2011 Press Conference


With the great effort and support from 11 tertiary institutions and different sectors of the community, the Foundation held “Wu Zhi Xing 2011” press conference on 6 July 2011. In the conference, Sir David Akers-Jones, Miss Leonie Ki, Dr Albert Chau, Ir Kam Wing Kee of Water Supplies Department officially launched this fundraising walkathon with Student Deans and their representatives from participating institutions.

The Tai Tam Waterworks Heritage Trail is situated at the Tai Tam Country Park, a perfect spot to experience the greatness of nature and local cultural heritage. This trail is also known as a spot of declared monuments with the highest number of historic stone bridges with over a century of age, highlighting the history of waterworks heritage. Strolling along the trail, you can visit 21 monuments, including historic architecture at Tai Tam Tuk Raw Water Pumping Station near the end point. Interpretations will be provided at our checkpoints along the trail.

With the support of Water Supplies Department, we will provide onsite interpretation for Tai Tam Tuk Raw Water Pumping Station near the end point. An inaugural two hours intervarsity charity walk, early in the morning embracing nature with you, where the beautiful scenery is complemented by benevolence, will truly be a meaningful and enjoyable event!

There are two categories. They are Tertiary Institutions Category and Open Category:

Tertiary Institutions Category Students, staff and alumni of participating institutions are welcome to join with companions. You are welcome to enroll under this category through the coordinating unit of your institution. Please click here to see contact details of respective coordinating unit and download corresponding enrolment form.
Open Category All interested parties are welcome to form teams (each team should have at least 4 members) and join the event! Please choose one of the following options to enroll.

*Only Online applicant is allowed to update / submit enrolment details by online enrolment system. For applicants who apply with enrolment form, they have to update / submit enrolment information by the form separately if necessary.

Important NOTES to Participants

  1. Tertiary Institution Category:The Foundation will send the confirmation and related materials of the event to the respective Coordinating Unit for dissemination by 7 November 2011.
    Open Category:The Foundation will send the confirmation and related materials of the event to the team leader for dissemination to respective team members by 7 November 2011. If the team leader has not yet received these materials by 7 November, 2011, please contact us directly.
  2. Participants under the age of 18 must obtain prior consent of his/her parents/guardian. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by adults.
  3. Late application will not be accepted. Walk-in registration will not be accepted on the day of the event.
  4. In case of bad weather, the Foundation may postpone the event to 20 November 2011. Announcement in relation to any changes to the event will be made through electronic media 3 hours before the event.
  5. Donations will not be refunded under any circumstances.

There is a winner, first runner up and second runner up for both Tertiary Institutions Category and Open Category. The winners will be awarded in the kick-off ceremony on the day of the event.

Note:

  1. The cut off date to determinate the award for the highest amount of funds raised is 28 October 2011 for both categories.
  2. If the event sponsors wish to join the awards, they have to raise extra fund excluding sponsorship pledged.
  3. The fundraising amount will be calculated on the basis of each institution for the Tertiary Institutions Category. For Open Category, the fundraising amount will be calculated as the total amount raised by one single team as indicated in the application form. The number of participants in each team will not be taken into consideration.
